Jorge, Havana, Cuba

- KAV DADFAR // PHOTOGRAPHER @dadfar_photography

Given his strength and stamina, 19-year-old Jorge could be mistaken for an Olympic swimmer. But his arena is the waters that crash into the Malecón seawall in Havana rather than the local pool. For For Jorge, his daily routine of swimming and diving involves using the age-old skill of spearfishing. His daily catch feeds his family and any extra is sold. “I’ve been spearfishing almost every day of my life, from when I was very young, so I’m confident I’ll catch three or four fish every time I go into the water. The only time I don’t fish is if there’s a storm.”
