HOW IS THE AIRLINE INDUSTRY COPING POST-COVID?

Air travel is slowly bouncing back, but the industry is still reeling from two tough years, and this is impacting the way it operates. Delays have improved significantly, but cancellations have increased by 10x across Europe this year.

WHY IS THIS?

Essentially, it’s to try and maximise profits. Carriers may list seven flights a week from London to Berlin, for example, assessing their popularity and cancelling the ones that don’t reach capacity.

HOW DOES IT AFFECT ME?

Everyone has the right to compensation if their flight is significantly delayed or cancelled — if it’s the airline’s fault, that is. This muddies the water, and it’s often harder to claim than it should be, with carriers pushing for passengers to accept vouchers or refunds taking months to come through.
