Can you recommend a luxury treehouse, with a sustainable focus, for a long weekend?
At Mallinson’s Woodland Retreat in Dorset, there are three plush treehouses lovingly crafted by owner
Guy Mallinson and his team using local timber that’s a by-product of sustainable woodland management. Dazzle Treehouse has a camouflage design inspired by patterns used to conceal First World War ships; Pinwheel is in a clearing between a ring of mature oak trees; and The Woodsman’s is a stylish, secluded haven, sensitively perched in an ancient oak. All come with king-sized beds and hot tubs, while The Woodsman’s also has a sauna and outdoor ‘tree shower’. From £990 for two nights. mallinson.co.uk
If you’re a couple looking for exclusivity, The Hudnalls Hideout is a large, solarpowered treehouse in ancient Wye Valley woodland. There’s a bioethanol fireplace, and a food hamper packed with local produce. Massages and yoga can also be arranged. From £400, minimum stay of three nights. hudnallshideout.co.uk
For a family-friendly treehouse, head to Rufus’s Roost on the Baxby Manor estate north of York. It sleeps up to six in three treetop rooms, and between two turrets there’s a large veranda with a log-fired pizza oven.
The kids will be thrilled when they discover the hidden doorway under the stairs that reveals a wooden slide to a secret room. From £1,450 for three nights. baxbymanor.co.uk
