THE LOWDOWN: The Swedish capital spans 14 interconnected islands and has a picturesque old town, Gamla Stan, where you’ll find cobbled streets and striking buildings such as Storkyrkan Cathedral.
Away from the historic centre, there’s a more laid-back local vibe in the hipster hub of Sofo (short for South of Folkungagatan), which has trendy restaurants, innovative fashion stores and quirky furniture shops – our kind of neighbourhood!
WHAT TO DO: A fun way to see the main attractions is on an amphibious bus. The Ocean Bus offers a sightseeing tour with a twist – starting on land before taking to the water, as your guide entertains you with stories about the city.
Another must-do is the museum dedicated to all things Abba. It’s filled with props and costumes from the legendary Swedish band’s touring days, as well as behind-thescenes footage from the Mamma Mia!
film franchise. WHAT TO EAT:
The Swedes are, of course, famous for their meatballs, so head to Meatballs For The People for a delicious authentic meal served with creamy mashed potato, lingonberry sauce and pickled cucumbers.
We also thoroughly enjoyed the Scandinavian tradition of Fika, which means “a coffee and cake break”. The ideal spot to enjoy your mid-morning treat is Stockholm’s award-winning roastery Drop Coffee. Its warm cinnamon buns are just perfect for your Fika moment.
