He’s known for making us laugh, but Chris Ramsey is pretty serious when it comes to the new series of Strictly Come Dancing. So serious, in fact, that he’s managed to injure himself ahead of the live shows!

But this setback hasn’t dampened the Geordie comic’s spirits, as he tells new! he’s “well up for” getting doused in fake tan and wearing sequins.

Chris, who’s been happily married to wife Rosie Winter since 2014, also believes there’s no chance he’ll be struck by the dreaded Strictly curse. After all, they’ve got a joint podcast – oh, and an adorable three-year-old son, Robin – to think about!

Here, the funnyman gives us the lowdown on his Strictly journey so far and reveals he’s “terrified” of the judges…

Hi Chris! We hear you’re injured already…

I’ve pulled a muscle in my back and strained my groin. It was the first thing I did! After physio, which was horrible, I was nearly crying. I thought my leg was being chopped off! But it worked.

So you’re all ready to get fake-tanned and sparkled up?

We’ve all seen Geordie Shore – it’s in our blood to get fake-tanned! I’m well up for it. The outfits are basically fancy dress, but look better than anything I’ve ever worn.

Are you excited about getting to know the judges?

Yeah, I danced in front of new judge Motsi Mabuse – that was terrifying. I did Celebrity Juice with Bruno Tonioli before. I wasn’t even doing Strictly and I was a little bit terrified then!

Last year, your fellow comedian Seann Walsh got into a bit of bother on the show after kissing married dance partner Katya Jones. Is your wife worried you’ll be tempted?

I’ve been with Rosie for seven years, married for five years, and I’ve got a three-year-old son with her. But more importantly, me and Rosie have got one of the biggest podcasts in the UK and I’m not going to jeopardise that!

Quite right, too! What are your thoughts on the curse?

I don’t think it’s a curse. It’s just one of those things. Life is life, people are people and relationships are relationships, you know.

What do you think about

Craig Revel Horwood’s comment that contestants should sleep with their dance partner if they want to win Strictly?

I didn’t even know those comments existed. But if that is the case, then I’ll be out in week one! Because I’m not going to sleep with my dance partner.

You recently revealed that you dropped Rosie while dancing…

It was the end of the night at a wedding. I dropped her on her

back, but she survived.

Which of the other Strictly celebs have you bonded with most?

Karim Zeroual and Jamie Laing. They’re a genuine joy to work with. I’ve never had a job, from TV to pubs, where I’ve got on so well with everyone.

Your show Chris Ramsey: Approval Needed is on Amazon Prime and you have a stand-up tour next year. So what can we expect?

Approval Needed is the best material I’ve ever done and I’m really proud of it. The next tour will be even better than that because that’s all I aim for. You can expect Strictly stuff. I write it just before I go on tour, because I get bored of the material really quickly. I want to keep it fresh!
