After being pictured together last week, pals think the former lovebirds could rekindle their romance
Nicole Scherzinger and Lewis Hamilton raised eyebrows when they were seen hanging out together at The Fashion Awards last week – and new can reveal they’ve been exchanging secret messages.
Two days before the awards do, singer Nicole, 41, messaged Formula 1 ace Lewis, 34, to congratulate him on his sixth world championship in Abu Dhabi.
“When he won his world title, Nicole sent Lewis a message and said she was thinking about him,” an insider told new.
Our source said Nicole, who was recently linked to The X Factor: Celebrity star Thom Evans, got in touch with Lewis because she still has feelings for him.
“Nicole knows deep down they have something exceptional between them,” our mole continued. “As soon as she realised Thom was just a fleeting crush, her mind immediately went back to Lewis.
“She still has strong feelings for Lewis. They recently spent two days together really reconnecting and she has said there are definitely feelings on both sides.”
Last week’s event at the Royal Albert Hall was the first time Nicole and Lewis have been pictured together since their eight-year on/off relationship ended in 2015. And as we’re told Nicole – who recently reunited with the Pussycat Dolls – is set on achieving several professional and personal goals in 2020, perhaps rekindling her romance with Lewis is now a key part of her plan.
“Nicole is in a really determined mindset and wants to make 2020 her biggest success yet in terms of both her love life and her career,” our insider said. “That was her motivation for getting back in touch with Lewis and making a public show of their reunion. “She knows in her heart there’s nobody else who can excite her like he does. As soon as she set eyes on Lewis, all those emotions came flooding back. The bond between them is clear to see.”
And it seems the feeling is mutual, as Lewis has made it clear he wants to give their relationship another go.
“He told her he ‘dropped the ball’ last time round and that he’s matured a lot since then,” our source said. “Lewis is determined to win Nicole back. It’s now down to Nic if she wants to follow her heart and give it a second chance. She feels vulnerable, but excited about what future they may have.”
In 2018, Lewis’s ex-girlfriend, glamour model Veronica Valle, claimed Nicole ended things because he wasn’t ready to propose. “He told me the reason they split up was because she wanted to get married,” she said. “He wasn’t ready. I think she thought he was going to propose. He didn’t and she got mad.”
Speaking in 2017 about her split from Lewis, Nicole said, “As women, we tend to love the other person and give everything to them. But sometimes the other person – the man – tends to be quite selfish, so they’re doing what’s best for them and we’re giving everything.
“When we start to lose ourselves and compromise who we are and our worth, that’s when we need to re-evaluate things. We need to draw that line and make those boundaries.”
Our source said Nicole is conscious of how much heartache she endured last time and isn’t prepared to let it happen again.
“Nicole remembers the pain she went through previously. She’s got her guard up this time,” continued our mole. “She has made it clear she expects certain things from Lewis if they are to give it another go. She wants him to step up with plans for proper commitment and a future together.”
