Tensions are at an all-time high between the exes after his “embarrassing” behaviour Stateside
Not only did Liam Payne humiliate himself during a recent explosive outburst at a US nightclub, but we’re told Cheryl Tweedy was also horrified by his public meltdown.
Liam, who has two-year-old son Bear with ex-partner Cheryl, clashed with security staff at the Silver Fox in Texas during a night out with his 19-year-old model girlfriend Maya Henry.
The former One Direction star, 26, claimed that bouncers had “jumped me for no reason” in a now-deleted Instagram post, in which he also said he was “looking forward” to seeing them in court.
After video footage of a dishevelled and dirt-stained Liam being held back by Maya went viral online, we’re told Cheryl felt she had no choice but to give her baby daddy a stern telling-off.
“Tensions are running sky high between Cheryl and Liam right now,” an insider claimed. “She told him in a heated row that she doesn’t recognise the man he’s become after she heard what happened in the US. Cheryl doesn’t take any prisoners when it comes to Bear and she’s told Liam he needs to be the best role model he can be.”
Our mole claimed Cheryl wishes Liam would grow up and put his responsibilities first.
“Cheryl feels like Liam has changed a lot since getting with Maya,” our source said. “She fears Maya’s got him under some kind of spell and she would rather he stayed grounded and focused on being the best
dad he can possibly be for Bear.
“Instead, it seems Liam wants to jet around the globe with
Maya, getting into trouble at nightclubs and sounding off on his Instagram Stories when he doesn’t get his way. Cheryl thinks it’s embarrassing.”
But we’re told Liam wasn’t impressed by Cheryl dishing out her opinions.
“Liam wants to feel independent and not patronised by Cheryl, which was always the issue when they were together because she became too much of a mothering figure in their relationship. That hasn’t gone away because they remain tied together by Bear,” our mole continued.
“It wouldn’t be so much of an issue, but Liam knows he has to appease Cheryl because he wants to see Bear at Christmas and for it to be tension-free.
“But he’s annoyed that Cheryl is trying to get involved in his personal affairs that don’t relate to her and has said they should just stick to talking about their co-parenting duties.”
However, the 36-year-old Greatest Dancer judge, who launched the latest series of the BBC talent show last week, is refusing to be shut down by her ex.
“Cheryl reminded Liam that when things affect their son then it is her business,” our insider continued. “She doesn’t like how the pair of them seem to do whatever they please.
“The fact that Maya hails from the US also worries Cheryl because she thinks they might end up settling there. She’s not having Liam take Bear there every other week and spending long periods of time away from his mum.”
Liam did little to ease tensions between him and Chez last week when he appeared to blame her for his struggles to bond with Bear after he was born.
“Cheryl was always really glued to Bear so, for me, I was like, ‘What’s my role in this? If I cook and look after her, then in turn I’m looking after him.’ That made sense to me,” he confessed.
He also opened up about his alcohol issues during his time in One Direction, revealing he turned to booze as a way of coping with his crippling loneliness.
“Doing a show to however many thousands of people, then being stuck by yourself in a country where you can’t go out anywhere – what else are you going to do? The minibar is always there,” he said.
