Harry Judd
Harry Judd The Mcfly drummer, 33, on his love of cricket and Netflix binges
MY HIDDEN TALENT is that I can play table tennis. I went to the national championships when I was 12 and came second in the south of England.
MY MOST TREASURED POSSESSION is my collection of cricket bats. I’m a massive cricket fan and have always loved playing the game.
I FEEL AT MY MOST VULNERABLE when I’m in a room alone with Dougie Poynter!
MY PLAN B was to be a cricketer. Every time I see it on TV I wish I was there playing.
SOCIAL MEDIA is a platform that can create positive outputs and be a great place to learn from. On the flip side, it can also be a complete time waster.
MY GREATEST ACHIEVEMENT is being part of a band that has achieved longevity in such a competitive industry. People always used to ask me, “What are you going to do after the band finishes?” and “Bands have a short shelf life, when are you going to get a proper job?”
TO CHILL OUT I like to play sport or go to the gym. Fitness is important to me and it’s also the way I like to relax, but there’s also nothing better than a Netflix binge.
THE BEST FRIENDS I CAN’T LIVE WITHOUT are my Mcfly bandmates. We have so much fun together. We get to travel the world and create and play music together. It’s the best job.
MY LIFE PHILOSOPHY is always try to be a reliable dad, husband and friend.
IN A CRISIS I would call my wife Izzy. She always knows what to do.
A CAUSE THAT’S IMPORTANT TO ME is The Children’s Trust, The Lord’s Taverners and all the other great charities I’ve been lucky enough to work with over the years. I have also recently been working with Thorntons to help them with their search for the UK’S first real-life elf to pass on the love in their local community.
THE TOUGHEST CHALLENGE
I’VE EVER FACED is Strictly or the London Marathon. With Strictly [Harry won the Glitterball Trophy in 2011], I didn’t have any dance experience before going on the show, so going from nothing to learning a new dance every week and then performing it live was really nerve-wracking. To win was incredible and made me realise I needed to challenge myself more in life.
I WOULD DESCRIBE MYSELF as competitive, loyal, a family man and the funniest/best member of Mcfly!
IF THE WORLD WAS GOING TO END TOMORROW I would spend the morning at home with my whole family. In the afternoon we would all go to Lord’s to watch England beat Australia in an Ashes decider and then we would all go to Wembley and do our final performance with Mcfly.
THE BIGGEST MISCONCEPTION ABOUT ME is that I’m a party animal. I don’t actually enjoy going out any more and I don’t drink, so really my perfect night is sitting on the sofa at home with some chocolate and watching The Crown with my wife.
I WOULD TELL MY 16-YEAROLD SELF to keep on playing the drums as you will still have a career in 16 years’ time doing it.
