Berry new year!

Cookery legend Mary Berry gives us all a great pressie – she’s going to be back on the box in 2020!

-

This Christmas she’s helped Kate and Wills throw a festive feast in the palace – but what’s next for Mary Berry?

Well, the baking goddess will be back on our screens in 2020, in the brand new series of Best Home Cook. The show sees 10 talented chefs embark on the ultimate immersive cooking contest, living under the same roof and competing against each other to impress the judges – Mary, top chef Angela Hartnett and presenter Chris Bavin. Here, Mary tells us all about it…

What do you think makes a great home cook, Mary?

Someone who cooks with love and passion, and has an understanding of, and a flair for, flavours.

What do you want – and not want – to see?

I want to see a joy of cooking and enthusiasm giving the best results.

I do not want disorganised preparation and panic when things don’t go right. An organised cook works in a tidy kitchen.

What has Michelinstarred chef Angela Hartnett brought to the table as a new judge?

Her skill, expertise and extensive knowledge – but best of all her humour, which relaxes all of us. Cooking should be fun!

She is a joy to work with.

What are you most excited for viewers to see?

The set is fabulous! It means we can go into different rooms, make a cup of coffee and chat. The set is every cook’s dream – bang on trend! What was your favourite meal growing up?

My mother was the cook in our family. Her roast shoulder of lamb and fresh mint sauce with new potatoes, home-grown seasonal vegetables and bread and butter pudding was paramount to family life.
