The Duchess is taking legal action over “false” claims which are said to have struck a nerve

- Georgia Trevitt

They’re used to being in the headlines, so the Duchess of Cambridge raised eyebrows when she and husband William took legal action over an explosive article written about her.

High society magazine

Tatler stated that Kate is

“furious” about her increased workload following Harry and Meghan’s decision to step down from royal duties and feels “exhausted and trapped”.

They further reported that Kate clashed with Meghan in the run-up to her wedding in 2018.

The magazine also referenced Kate’s weight by comparing her to Princess Diana, saying the Duchess has become “perilously thin”.

And now royal expert Duncan Larcombe has told their decision to get lawyers involved shows Kate has been hit hard by the remarks. He also believes the claims about her and Meghan will have been particularly hard for her to swallow.

“The narrative of that falling out between William and Kate and Harry and Meghan touches a nerve,” Duncan said.

He added, “What William and

Kate are very keen to do is to stop the constant comparison between Kate and Meghan where Kate is almost used by some outlets as a stick to beat Meghan with.

“We know William and Kate are very sensitive about comparisons with Meghan. If they’re prepared to take this action, it clearly indicates that they’re either not tolerating any more of those comparisons or the story was misguided.”

Kate, 38, and William, 37, issued legal letters demanding the online article be removed. Kensington Palace said it contained “inaccuracies and false representations”, but Tatler dismissed the complaint and said it had “no merit”.

Duncan said the couple’s move is “very rare” and that they won’t have made the decision lightly. “It’s almost as though they want to draw a line in the sand where it’s gone a bit too far,” he explained. “They have taken legal action against publishers before, but you can count the legal battles on less than one hand. It’s an unusual move.”
