THE OH! ZONE

Takeshi’s Castle host and comedian Stephen Bailey on his love of Corrie and Cheryl

-

Right now I’m watching the Steps reunion documentary from 2011. I spend my days watching that, and then I turn to Schitt’s Creek in the evening. I’m obsessed with Moira Rose’s turn of phrase.

The funniest person on TV is Sally Webster from Coronation Street. She’s just the best comedy character. She reminds me of every woman I worked with on checkouts at the supermarket. She’s so real – you can tell she’s written by someone from Manchester. I love Corrie so much. I did two episodes of it last year and it was my dream come true – I hosted the Hairdresser Of The Year awards!

My guilty pleasure is not that guilty, but I’ve just taken over as the narrator of Ferne Mccann: First Time Mum. It’s something I’ve always wanted to do. I love those ITVBE reality shows – it stems from an early obsession with The Hills.

My dream duet would be with Cheryl Tweedy. I’ve loved her since 2002 and in my mind she’s still the nation’s sweetheart. And I reckon I could keep up with her as well. With Adele, I’d never be able to hit those notes, but Cheryl, I think we’d be well matched.

The shows I never miss are my soaps. Corrie, Eastenders, Hollyoaks – I don’t miss an episode, which isn’t hard, as I’m always on the train travelling to gigs so that’s when I watch them.

The best movie ever made is The Greatest Showman. The storyline might not be the strongest, but I love it. It makes me feel so good. I can watch it over and over again – I’ve easily seen it 40 times.

My karaoke classic is any Girls Aloud hit. Obviously my inner Cheryl comes out a lot for that. Or – and it’s a bit off brand for me – I love Mr Brightside by The Killers. It reminds me of uni and £1 vodka and cranberry juices. Though, looking back, I’m not sure if it was vodka or petrol…
