As Wayne Rooney gives his wife a ‘commitment’ ring and starts planning wedding no.2, Coleen puts the brakes on his grand plans

They’ve had their fair share of ups and downs, but Coleen and Wayne Rooney are stronger than ever after recently celebrating their 12th wedding anniversary.

The pair marked their special day by uploading soppy social media posts, but we can reveal their PDAS are just the tip of the iceberg, as a source has told that Wayne wants them to renew their vows. Wowzers!

“Coleen was in complete shock when Wayne presented her with a commitment ring as he asked her to renew their vows and ‘remarry’ when lockdown is over in front of all their loved ones,” our insider revealed.

Since the pair tied the knot in Italy back in 2008, their marriage has been far from smooth sailing. Last year Wayne was forced to defend himself after he was pictured at a hotel in Canada with a mystery woman following a reported seven-hour bender.

But our mole says Wayne sees repeating their big day as an opportunity for a fresh start.

“Wayne would love to go back to Italy for the romantic ceremony and thinks it will be a clean slate, but Coleen wasn’t as blown away as Wayne had hoped and voiced her concern over his grand plan,” our insider explained.

“While she loves his new romantic side and how sweet and thoughtful he is being, she’s a bit worried the grand gesture could jinx them, admitting she’s concerned everything could go wrong when they’re in such a good place again and that she doesn’t want to tempt fate.”

The pair, both 34, made it clear their relationship is going from strength to strength when they gushed about each other online earlier this month.

Sharing a snap of their wedding on Instagram, Coleen wrote, “Happy anniversary @waynerooney .... 12 years since that unbelievable celebration.

I love you x,” while Wayne posted a similar snap and ended his caption, “Love you always.”

It’s no wonder they’re in a great place – with lockdown pausing the football season for three months they’ve been able to enjoy quality time together at home with their four sons, Kai, ten, Klay, seven, Kit, four, and two-year-old Cass.

And our source says Coleen is keen to maintain the harmony and thinks renewing their vows may only put unnecessary pressure on them.

“Coleen doesn’t need another wedding to prove their love for one another to the world and thinks a public display would only thrust their marriage back into the spotlight, which is the last thing she wants to do,” continued our insider.

“While Wayne understood, he was gutted and said he’d already been looking at dates and speaking to pals about special guests they could invite to perform, as well as the boys being excited about getting to be involved in their mum and dad’s wedding this time around.”

There could be a glimmer of hope for Wayne, though. When rumours swirled that the couple were planning to renew their vows at the time of their 10th anniversary in 2018, Coleen hinted she wasn’t completely averse to the idea.

“It doesn’t seem like a long time ago that I got married. It goes so quick! Not at the moment, but maybe in the future,” she said at the time. “My mum and dad have renewed theirs a few times. They’ve been married 30-odd years. It’s something I will consider in the future but not yet.”

And our insider concluded, “Coleen isn’t totally against the idea, but would want something low-key and private. After everything they’ve been through, they need to focus on continuing to strengthen their bond.”

We think she might have the right idea, Wayne.
