Court battle nasty’
Lizzie, 52, adds Coleen is “fiercely protective” of her family – husband Wayne, 34, and sons Kai, 10, Klay, seven, Kit, four, and two-year-old Cass – and despite her reluctance to engage in legal proceedings, she will welcome the opportunity to give her side of the story.
What’s more, Lizzie believes Coleen will be getting full backing from Derby County player Wayne.
“Coleen is one of the most supportive wives,” Lizzie continues. “She protects her family and that’s the reason she went to the lengths of finding out who was leaking the stories. Wayne is totally supporting her. Of course he doesn’t want to see his wife in court, but on the other hand it was affecting his life, too.”
But it’s not just the Rooneys who are feeling the strain. Lizzie thinks the situation will also be tough for mum-of-five Becky, who is married to Leicester City star Jamie Vardy.
“Coleen was previously told by her lawyers there were possibly holes in this case and to leave it, but she doesn’t want to leave it at all,” Lizzie tells us. “I think it’s going to get nasty, which is a shame because they were once friends.”
While the drama has raised eyebrows among the public, Lizzie – who was married to former footballer Jason Cundy until 2012 – says it’s also caused a huge stir in the WAG world.
“It’s a close-knit community because no one else understands what you’re going through except for the other WAGS,” she tells us.
“There are people who take sides because it’s quite a cliquey environment, but it’s usually very supportive. But I have to say this is quite unusual in the football world. It’s really sad.”
Last week, Coleen made it clear she’s feeling disappointed over Becky’s refusal to sit down with her and thrash out their differences.
Coleen’s lawyer, Paul Lunt of Brabners, told “It is disappointing that Mrs Vardy has chosen to issue court proceedings. Coleen feels that the time and money involved could be put to better use. Her offer to meet face to face still stands.
“Mrs Vardy’s decision to issue court proceedings does at least mean Coleen’s evidence can be made public when the time is right.”
Lizzie tells us, “This has been dragging on and all Coleen wanted was an explanation and it just got out of hand. Coleen knows going to court is a waste of money that could be used for better things.”
We have a feeling this could rumble on!
