‘Toyah will need Battersby spirit to get her through prison!’

As her Corrie character Toyah stands trial for murder, Georgia Taylor, 42, tells us what’s in store for her

-

Hi, Georgia. Toyah confesses to Spider and Leanne that she did intend to kill Imran in the crash. Were you surprised? yes, it was only confirmed to me when I got the script! She didn’t get in the car meaning to kill him or hurt him. She had a few seconds where the red mist descended and she just lost her mind. She went, “I don’t care what happens,” and then… boom! Before you know it, they’ve hit the building!

How does Spider react to the confession? He’s basically like, “I can’t hear this.” He bails and then falls totally off the radar. When Toyah goes to court, she doesn’t know if Spider has told the police or where he is.

How is Toyah coping as the trial begins? The pressure’s building. Leanne‘s worried. She thinks Toyah could blurt it all out and throw herself at the mercy of the jurors. Meanwhile, there’s Adam being an absolute snake. Kelly, Adam, Saira and the prosecution team are all on her case, and Spider’s done a runner – all eight legs of him! – so Toyah’s basically only got Leanne.

Would she cope in prison?

I really want a prison storyline, because it looks like fun! Toyah’s got this counselling background, so she could become someone her fellow inmates come to. Or she could just be bullied. She’d need that Battersby spirit to get her through.

Toyah’s longed to be a mum. If she walks free, would you like to see her pursue that as a single parent? I think it’s an option. But we have a responsibility to reflect all aspects of society and show that a childless woman can be happy. That’s something I feel strongly about myself. So maybe she finds fulfilment and joy in something else. I want her to get loads of animals – cats, dogs, rabbits, a pony, everything. And pigs. She should definitely keep pigs!
