Flower contest blossoms despite lockdown
GARDENERS persevered through the coronavirus lockdown to produce some spectacular entries for this year’s Hungerford In Bloom competition.
Organisers said in a statement: “Despite initial worries that our annual Hungerford in Bloom competition would not take place this year due to the coronavirus epidemic, we are absolutely delighted that it did go ahead and we would like to say thank you to all those who entered by submitting photos of their beautiful gardens.
“All qualifying photos were scored by each of the four judges for colour, variety of planting, maintenance and originality and the winning photos were determined by their total score.
“Winners were awarded a certificate and garden centre vouchers.
“The judges certainly had an extremely difficult task due to the high standard of the photos.”
The winner of the Margaret Wilson Memorial Trophy – awarded to the entrant who gained the highest score across all residential categories entered – was Brian Talmage.
