Park repair work is ‘essential maintenance’
MAINTENANCE work on a Thatcham playground was not in response to an accident, West Berkshire Council has said.
The larger play area at the Nature Discovery Centre was closed for two days last week to allow the work to be carried out.
But commenting on the Newburytoday Facebook page Louise Coulson said: “That’s what happens when a child is injured after the council fail to secure and close the park to fix it in a timely manner!
“A child fell. From what I gather he fell from the board bridge to the ground, I don’t know how bad it was but the child was pretty young.
“No breaks from what I gather, bumps and bruises I believe, but it’s still not good enough!”
A West Berkshire Council spokeswoman said: “The work planned here for two days has not got anything to do with the incident.
“This is for the replacement boardwalk which runs through the site and which allows access by those in a wheelchair.
“It’s essential maintenance.”
