Multiple smoke alarms ‘vital’ in homes

-

THE Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue Service is advising people to buy multiple smoke alarms as part of a nationwide awareness campaign running this month.

The RBFRS says just one alarm may not be enough to alert householders to fire risks.

According to official statistics, only one in three fires in England and Wales are picked up by smoke alarms.

RBFRS west hub prevention manager Gail Muirhead said: “Smoke alarms can offer vital protection for you and your loved ones in the event of a fire, but it’s easy to simply fit and forget.

“You might not know if it’s coming to the end of its lifespan or not working at all. “It’s so important that not only you have enough smoke alarms in your home, but that you ensure that they are in the right places.

“That will give them the best chance of alerting you and your loved ones in the event of a fire, ultimately saving lives.”
