Champion display from Mead

FOURTEEN-year-old Simon Mead completed a remarkable double after winning Newbury & Crookham Golf Club Championsh­ips at the weekend.

Having already won the Fairhurst Cup in June, Mead added the Jack Hughes Trophy to his haul.

Club champion Mead scored 73+71=144 to give him a win by one shot from Kevin Dunks (75+70=145), who won the Jack Hughes Memorial Trophy for players over 55 years of age.

Bradley Hopkin won the 4-9 salver with scores of 75+76=149 and Jack Crossan the 10-18 salver with 73+81=154.

David Bance made it a weekend to remember by scoring a hole-in-one on the 17th during the second round.
