Pringle doubles up on awards night

Two awards for Jerome as Thames Valley ABC celebrate season

- BOXING

JEROME Pringle picked up two awards at Thames Valley ABC’s annual awards presentation.

Pringle clinched the Senior award after winning his two bouts, and he also scooped the Boxers’ Boxer, which is chosen by the club members.

The event followed socialdistancing guidelines and it was for only half of their season, which was curtailed because of the coronavirus outbreak.

The Schoolboy award went to Jake Tillen as he had trained and boxed well in his contests, while Alex Willoughby took the Junior award for an outstanding performance in his first bout.

The Youth Award went to Connor Stafford for his excellent performance in his last bout at Great Yarmouth.

The Club Person of the Year – now named the Bob Cooke Award – was won by Omar Sheikh for his hard work and dedication to training and his willingness to help out in the gym.

The club’s annual dinner show had to be cancelled due to Covid19, but has been rescheduled for May 9 2021.

The Clubs for Young People trophy is handed out to the best bout of the show so it was decided it would go to Aaron Duncan for his tremendous performance at Great Yarmouth.

And the Sutton Roofing plaque went to Youth Connor Stafford.

The Johnnie Bremner for Heart and Courage Cup went to Ashton Duncan who had a broken hand at the start of the season, but put up a battling display in a bout at Bournemouth.

I Coach Paul Cooke said that this has been his busiest season in his 40 years at the club, but the future was in doubt as their rent is being doubled.

Cooke said: “We are completely volunteer based and a community run club, so we cannot afford the new amount of rent.

“If anyone knows of any premises for rental from 1,200 to 2,000 sq ft in Thatcham or Newbury please could they contact me at thamesvalleyabc@ hotmail.com as it would be a sad day if the club which has been running since 1956 had to close.”
