1,000 up for Herrington

IAN Herrington capped his 1,000th game for Welford Park by hitting the winning boundary in the final over against a young Hungerford side.

Hungerford batted first and Karl McDonald (66) and Wayne Lyford (21) put on 60 for the first wicket in 12 overs.

Park hit back through spinners Herrington (2-27) and Alex Hutchinson (4-39) to leave Hungerford on 134-5 with 12 overs left.

But some late hitting from Wolfe (35) and Oliver Tulloch (38no) accelerate­d the final score to a respectabl­e 221-8.

Skipper Ben Myers (40) and Uday Paturi (39) opened up for Welford and put on 67 for the first wicket.

Paturi and Richard Jones added a further 37 and Jacob McManus kept up the momentum, adding a further 59 with Jones.

Welford then lost four wickets for 12 runs in four overs, to leave them on 175-6 and when Jones fell for 66 Park still needed six more runs.

However, debutant Bhargav Sutapalli clipped through mid wicket for four and it was left to Herrington to fittingly see his side home by two wickets.

I A Welford side scored a thrilling win over Ramsbury on Sunday.

Ramsbury got off to a flier and it was only when the spin of Harrison was introduced that the game changed.

He took four wickets as the Ramsbury lower order lost their last six wickets fell for 34 runs to finish on 178.

In reply, Zak Benney and Herrington got on top of the Ramsbury attack before Benney was bowled and Herrington retired on reaching 50.

A flurry of wickets left Welford in trouble, but a fine knock from Ludo Benning and fellow youngster Archie Keep saw their side home with a ball to spare.
