Space to wander and wonder

- TRISH LEE

NEXT month Altered States Open Air Sculpture Exhibition, curated by Jim Crockatt, opens in the grounds of Shaw House.

The open-air show of 60 sculptures on the Orangery Lawns will be open to the public from September 5-27, 11am-4pm, every day. Entry will be free.

Jim says: “Visitors can wander around a stunning and varied array of sculpture in wood, metal, stone and metal resin and survey a sumptuous vision of beauty, innovation and imagination encapsulated in sculptures that have been sourced throughout the length and breadth of this country.”

All of the works will be for sale. Families are most welcome ,but are encouraged to respect the works. They are not interactive and for safety purposes, visitors are asked not to touch the sculptures.

Government guidelines regarding the pandemic are to be observed at all times. Sculptures will be well spaced apart to allow social distancing within the grounds.

This exhibition had been scheduled for May but, says Jim: “Like a mighty phoenix, rises from the ashes of postponement to give the people of Newbury a much-needed and deserved space to wander and wonder.” Over the next few weeks N2 will be featuring some of the exhibiting artists, so visitors can get a good idea of the work on show.
