Gearing up for two days of very special deliveries
THE NWN Over 80s’ Parcel Fund has long been bringing a little Christmas joy into the lives of many of West Berkshire’s older citizens.
And this year we are still going ahead and hoping to deliver more than 1,850 parcels of festive treats to people aged 80 and over, who are now on our list and live in Newbury, Hungerford and Thatcham and many of the surrounding villages.
This year the parcels are being delivered on both Friday, December 4, and Saturday, December 5, so if you are expecting a food parcel, please keep your eyes open for the kind people who are helping us get them to you.
The NWN strongly believes that each parcel is sent out as a way of reminding all our elderly residents that they are by no means forgotten and we still appreciate everything they have done during their lifetime, whatever it might be.
For some of these people it is simply the knock on the door and being remembered that will mean so much to them.
All of the parcels are now ordered and they are being packed this weekend by Sainsbury’s staff.
We need to say a very big thank you to Sainsbury’s, especially Carol Irwin who has been in charge of ordering not only a few of each item, but 1,850, and co-ordinating the packing, which is not an easy task.
We also usually have many little helpers from all the Cub packs around the area, who sadly due to this year’s restrictions are not able to be involved, so our thanks also go to all the Sainsbury’s staff who are giving up their own time to ensure the parcels are still packed this year.
We are delighted that Greenham Trust this year is still match-funding the first £5,000 of company and private donations made to the Over 80s’ Parcel Fund via The Good Exchange and for each £1 donated online Greenham Trust will also donate £1 towards a Christmas parcel.
