Town is open for late-night bargains
A HOST of Hungerford’s celebrated independent shops have announced special, late-night openings in the approach to Christmas.
Co-owner of the Hungerford Bookshop Emma Milne-White said it was a case of making up for lost time.
She said: “After most shops in Hungerford were closed throughout November, they are now busy playing catch-up serving customers who love what they sell and who want to shop locally.”
Many of those independents have decided to open late twice a week – on Wednesdays and Fridays – with a special evening on Friday, December 18.
Shoppers will be able to choose gifts from 5pm until 7pm at Jade Bailey Interiors, Hungerford Bookshop, The Emporium, The Kitchenmonger, Cooper & Cooper, Luna Boutique, The Clockmaker and White Coco.
Refreshment will be available at Alexander’s Tea Rooms within Hungerford Arcade. Meanwhile, Inklings and The Naked Grape will be open until 6pm.
The Plume has offered latenight shoppers a discount
voucher off a meal there if they spend more than £40 in participating shops, and Hungerford Chamber of Commerce is asking people to vote for their favourite shop window.
On Friday, December 18, Phoenix Woodfired Pizza will be bringing its pizza oven to the high street, the bookshop will be offering a glass of wine, Jade Bailey hot drinks and there is some live music planned.
Mrs Milne-White said: “Shopping locally has never been more important.
“Small shops contribute greatly to the community – for every £10 spent with a local business £3.80 stays within the area, and their owners are genuinely passionate and knowledgeable about what they sell.
“So, resist online as much as you can and support Hungerford – which is looking beautifully festive as usual with its streets garlanded with white lights – and shop in a civilised way on Wednesday and Friday evenings.
“We guarantee you will find some wonderful gifts.”
