Jenner’s Newbury double

-

CARL Jenner scored a brace for Newbury FC as they returned to action with a 3-1 away win to Cookham Dean in the Thames Valley Premier League.

In only their fourth game of the season, it was the first time that Newbury were playing since October 14.

And they secured the three points, with Kye Franklin also netting, to move up to sixth in the Premier Division.

Elsewhere, Mortimer suffered their first league defeat of the season as they lost 3-2 at home to Maidenhead Town.

Stefan Allen and Alex Miller were on the scoresheet for the home side, but a brace from Ryan Adams, as well as a goal from Harry Combe, saw them drop to third in the standings.

Burghfield have fallen to ninth in the league after they suffered a 3-1 away defeat to Richings Park.

Arron Jones (2) and Ricky Caves were on target for Richings Park as they climbed to seventh in the table.

There were no games in the other four divisions, but teams in those leagues return to action this weekend.

LAMBOURN Sports were eliminated from the North Berks Cup, after a 3-0 away defeat to Berinsfield.

Max Palmer, David Murphy and Christopher Murphy were on the scoresheet for the home side, who progressed into the quarter-final.

In Division 2 of the North Berks League, Kintbury Rangers Dev secured their fourth win of the season as they beat Long Wittenham Res 4-1.

Aidan Maycock (2), Charlie Allsop and Craig Bruce all scored in the win.

However, Lambourn Sports Res suffered a 4-1 away defeat to Milton United Dev.

NEWBURY Ladies were also in action over the weekend as they lost 2-1 against Ascot United.

Moments before half-time Ascot broke through the defence and keeper Kat Brown was unable to stop the shot to give United a 1-0 lead at the break.

As the second half went on Ascot started to dominate, Newbury seemed to tire and eventually after 25 minutes they had a 2-0 lead.

This sparked Newbury into life and they raised their game, reducing the deficit three minutes later through a Leanne Saunders penalty after Ayala Truelove was brought down in the box.

Newbury piled on the pressure in the final 15 minutes, but they were unable to convert that pressure into goals.
