Hockey returns to Newbury after country’s second national lockdown
LUCY Blair scored the only goal for Newbury & Thatcham ladies 3rd as they suffered a 5-1 home defeat at the hands of Abingdon 1st.
The result leaves Newbury with just one point after seven games in the Trysports Three Counties League Division 2 this season, ahead of another home game against Thame 2nd on Saturday.
It was their first game back since October, as the league season was halted due to the second national lockdown.
Elsewhere, Newbury & Thatcham ladies 2nd picked up a point after a 0-0 draw against local rivals Oxford 4th in Division 1.
Alice Keppel-Compton was voted player of the match and the result leaves them with seven points from their opening six games.
Emma Boyd and Katy Hall both found themselves on the scoresheet for Newbury & Thatcham 4th as they lost 3-2 away to Reading Riots, in a friendly.
Newbury & Thatcham men’s 1st earned their second successive league win as they beat South Berkshire 1st 4-1 away from home.
Captain Rory Mitchell netted a brace for his side, while Alex Jordan and Rhodri Lewis were also among the goals.
However, it was a difficult day for the Newbury & Thatcham 2nd team as they fell to a 6-1 home defeat against South Berkshire 2nd.
Nick Barrett scored his side’s only goal of the game and they’ll be aiming to bounce back when they travel to Henley 2nd this weekend.
Newbury & Thatcham 3rd were celebrating after recording a 3-0 win over South Berkshire 3rd with Joe Ruggiero, Mike Dutfield and Piers Cunliffe all scoring.
Chris Obin twice found the back of the net for Newbury & Thatcham men’s 4th team, while Jake Haynes was also on target, as they beat Phoenix & Ranelagh 2nd 3-0.
Newbury & Thatcham 5th played out a 10-goal thriller with Tring 1st as the two sides drew 5-5.
JP Kustner scored twice while Chris Somerville, Thomas Penfold and Will Hannam also netted.
Elsewhere, Tristan Powell picked up a hat-trick for Newbury Vets as they beat Salisbury Strollers 7-2 at home.
Andy Hastings (2), Blue Nolan and Hugh Thompson were also in on the goals.
