Robinson is aware of improvements
Crusaders suffer third straight league defeat this season
HUNGERFORD Town boss Danny Robinson believes his side deserved more from Saturday’s 3-0 home defeat to Dulwich Hamlet.
The Crusaders fell to their third successive league defeat as Andre Blackman, Sanchez Ming and Tyrique Hyde were on the scoresheet for the visitors.
Despite the scoreline suggesting it was a one-sided game, Robinson felt Town were the better team throughout the 90 minutes.
He said: “I think the scoreline flatters Dulwich and it doesn’t do us justice in how much effort we put into the game.
“Key moments change games and we switched off for the first goal and then they killed us with the penalty.”
Hungerford had chances to get back into the game in the second-half, and were denied a penalty when Luke Hopper was brought down in the penalty area.
Robinson said: “We had a stonewall penalty denied, we had three or four chances cleared off the line and we created chances.
“They were going in during the first five or six games of the season and now lady luck has deserted us a little bit.
“You want to rip people’s heads off for losing 3-0, but on the basis of that performance I am so proud of it.
“We created chances, we were the better side for 90 minutes, but anyone that didn’t see the game will think Dulwich were better and that’s not the case.”
It’s now a run of just one win in six games for Robinson’s men, but he remains confident that results will come based on the performance levels.
“We knew it would be a slog,” he admitted.
“Nobody is getting carried away and we know what we are as we’re playing against sides who are very good at this level so we have to be at it all the time.
“We have lost three games in a row, but I don’t think we deserved to lose to Dartford or against Dulwich and I think the performances levels are okay – at the end of the day if you make
mistakes you get punished.”
A crowd of 393 were in attendance at Bulpit Lane as supporters were allowed to cheer on Hungerford for the first time this season.
And Robinson was delighted to see them back, hoping they’ll continue to back his side for the rest of the campaign
He said: “If I was a supporter [at the game] I would be disappointed with the result and the manner of the goals, but we showed fight, determination and character and that is what has got us to 19 points.
“It is what we are about and we have a group of lads who are willing to put the Hungerford shirt on, and willing to put their bodies on the line.
“I think the fans are full of confidence into how we can keep going and our luck will turn.”
