Shame on the Tories for Thatcham housing plan

MAY I offer my sincere thanks to our MP Laura Farris for confirming what many of us had already guessed.

Laura kindly attended the Thatcham Town Council meeting on Monday, March 29. She told Thatcham’s councillors that WBC had planned to build Grazeley Garden Town (jointly with Bracknell and Wokingham councils) but that the expansion of AWE’s DEPZ blast protection zone was the reason that this could not go ahead. So just last year the planners started searching for a site – any site – to build 2,500 houses.

That is the reason why Tory-run West Berkshire Council’s proposal for a Thatcham new town (adding Hungerford’s population to Thatcham) is half baked, self contradictory and lacking in any additional facilities for Thatcham.

The plans are not plans at all: They are simply an idea that the council administration has grabbed at in their confusion and haste.
