Fun Day could return

-

THATCHAM Family Fun Day could return this year, but a Second World War theme to mark VE/VJ Day will have to wait.

Thatcham Town Council holds the event on the Henwick Worthy playing fields at the end of June as a free summer activity.

The council has proposed holding a Family Fun Day on Sunday, June 27.

The Government roadmap to easing lockdown currently sets out June 21 for the hope to be able to remove all legal limits on social contact.

Events manager John Sackett said at a recent meeting: “It seems as though that’s quite tight, but it’s been proved with the events we have done in Tier 2 and 4 we could still put on some type of event.”

If it did go ahead, the 2021 fun day would be smaller than usual, with some attractions but more community focused.

A contingency plan to hold an event at Henwick Worthy in September and August is also being explored.

Last year’s fun day, cancelled due to coronavirus restrictions, was planned to commemorate the 75th anniversary of VE and VJ Day, including a parachute display team, military reenactors and art display involving local schoolchildren.
