The Rev David Witts blessed the business’ chapel of rest at a service on March 31.

Funeral director Alan ‘Alf ’ Ennis said: “He did a fantastic job.

“He said it was his first request to bless a chapel in 35 years.

“He read a personal script he had put together about people saying their final goodbyes.

“It was quite moving.” Mr Ennis said he was proud to open an independent funeral directors in Thatcham.

He said: “We’re proud to be independent, offering high-quality funerals at affordable prices with experienced, caring and compassionate staff.”

Mr Ennis has previously worked at Camp Hopson Funeral Directors, covering 200 funerals in his time there, and Alexander and Dry in Basingstoke.

The business has opened at 8 Pipers Court, next to Halfway Garage.

Mr Ennis said: “We didn’t want a high street shop location because they are not practical to what a funeral director needs to offer – they are limited on space.

“We wanted everything in house. We selected a large commercial premises that we are able to do that with.”

The business currently has five staff, but Mr Ennis said he was looking to take on two more.
