Housebuilder’s £1k funds welcome packs for women fleeing abuse

-

HOUSEBUILDER Persimmon Homes has donated £1,000 to Berkshire Women’s

Aid through its Community Champions scheme that will go towards women fleeing domestic abuse.

The money will help victims of domestic abuse by funding welcome packs for women and children at times when they may need it most.

The Community Champions funding scheme donates to two community charities every month. Berkshire Women’s Aid chief executive Andrea West applied for the funding from Persimmon Homes.

She said: “We are raising money to fund welcome packs for women and children coming into refuge when they have fled domestic abuse.

“They often come to us with little more than the clothes they are standing in so we provide clothing, toiletries, sanitary products, food, nappies and toys to make a refuge a home.

“We also provide new bedding which they can take with them when they leave refuge to set up their own home.”

She added: “As part of the pack we also have an activity pack aimed at children to help them make sense of refuge.

“These children have faced major disruption and trauma so these packs are critical to enable them to settle into what could be their home for 12 months to help them recover and rebuild.”

Persimmon Homes Thames Valley sales director Rachel Faulkner added: “As a housebuilder we know the importance of having somewhere safe to call home.

“We are pleased to be able to help Berkshire Women’s Aid in their efforts to make their refuges just that little bit more homely.”
