Blues turn it around

-

NEWBURY Blues returned to winning ways in the South West 1 East as they came from behind to beat Sherborne 15-14 at Monks Lane.

The visitors took an early lead after 15 minutes when they were awarded a penalty, which was slotted into touch just inside the Blues 22.

The lineout was won by Sherborne’s forwards and they mauled up to the line before releasing the ball and crossing the try line before converting the kick.

The score remained 7-0 at the break and the away side stretched their lead with another converted try, just five minutes into the second half.

Blues were awarded a penalty and from there they kicked the ball into touch, but from the resulting lineout Sherbourne won the ball.

After a couple of scrums, Sherborne kicked the ball forward and the chase was successful as they scored a second try of the game.

Kyle Doel gave Newbury hope after 54 minutes when he scored the home side’s first points of the game.

After a series of drives, following a lineout, Doel managed to break through and cross the line, but the kick couldn’t be converted.

Things started going the way of Blues as one of the Sherborne players received a yellow card and Tom Cole kicked a penalty.

Then, with six minutes from time, the comeback was complete.

Blues were awarded a penalty, but used the advantage well and Toby Thorne’s grubber kick found Michael Klichowicz, who scored and Cole converted to give the home side the win.
