Burghfield continue their impressive form

BURGHFIELD continued to pile the pressure on Finchampst­ead in the Thames Valley Premier League as they beat Reading YMCA 2-1.

James McCellan opened the scoring for Burghfield, but YMCA hit back almost instantly as Michael Holder levelled the scores.

The score remained the same until the 83rd minute when Jack Bowyer scored the all-important winning goal for the visitors.

The win took Burghfield into second place after picking up 13 points from six league games this season.

Mortimer have fallen to 12th in the table as they suffered a heavy 6-0 defeat to Yateley United.

In Division 1 Res, Tadley Calleva Res suffered their first defeat of the campaign as they went down 3-1 to Maidenhead Town Res.

Sam Kailus scored their only goal, but they were unable to take anything out of the game.

In Division 2, Mortimer Dev had to settle for their third draw of the campaign as they drew 2-2 with Maidenhead Town A. Craig Jarvis and Noah Smith were on target for Mortimer, but they remain second from bottom.

Burghfield Res have extended their lead at the top of Division 3 after they beat Reading City Dev 3-0 away from home. Dominic Kerevan scored twice, while Elliot Telford also netted.

Cholsey United moved up to fourth in Division 1 of the North Berks League after a 2-1 home win over Watlington Town Res.

Luke Higgins and Camden Laver were on the scoresheet for the home side. In Division 2, Lambourn Sports registered their third win of the season as they beat Long Wittenham Res 3-2 away from home.

Edward Greatrex and two from Geren Scarlett handed them all three points. Elsewhere, Kintbury Rangers Dev beat East Hendred Res 3-0 away, but Letcombe Res lost 7-3 at Stanford-in-the-Vale. In Division 3, Compton remain top of the table after they beat Berinsfiel­d Res 4-0 at home.

Jack Baker, Alex Caines, Jake Rostron and Luke Phillips all scored in the convincing win.
