Rangers leave their mark on Fairford

-

KINTBURY Rangers have closed the gap on the teams above them after an 8-3 victory over Fairford Town Res in Division 2 South of the Hellenic League.

Rangers sit in fourth place, seven points behind leaders Highworth Town Res with a game in hand.

They are also a couple of points behind third-placed Swindon Supermarine Dev and three points behind Wantage Town Dev in second.

Josh Davis and Aidan Maycock both scored a hat-tricks against Fairford, while Luke Whelan and Toby Bridges were also on target.

On Saturday, Kintbury will have the chance to jump above Swindon as the two sides meet in the league.

Elsewhere, Hungerford Town Swifts recorded their second win of the season as they beat Highworth Town Res 3-0.

Fabio Pinto and Robbie Sadler scored two of the three goals as the home side handed Highworth their first defeat of the season.

Letcombe also picked up three points as they beat Shrivenham Dev 3-1 away from home.

The visitors took the lead midway through the half when Josh Fowler won the ball and supplied the pass for Greg Nutley to score his first goal of the season, driving the ball low into the far corner of the net.

Shrivenham equalised after 40 minutes when the visiting defence failed to clear a low cross from the left, leaving Charlie Hampson to tap the ball into an empty net.

Letcombe took the lead on the hour, Chad Abrams placing a Daniel Pear free-kick past the keeper from 10 yards with a glancing header.

They went further ahead 10 minutes later with an almost identical goal, Abrams again providing the finishing touch with his head from a Pear free-kick.

Letcombe will be aiming for another league victory on Saturday when they host local rivals Newbury FC.
