Christy makes it back-to-back club championships at West Berks
CHRISTY Whelehan followed up Jane Brackenbury’s win in the ladies’ October medal at West Berkshire Golf Club by winning the men’s competition and making it a double for the reigning club champions.
Whelehan won Division 1 with a gross one-under-par 72, net 69.
Mark Kendal, with gross 77, net 71, beat Chris Ramsey, gross 84, on countback to take second spot.
Dan Hawkins won Division 2 with gross 102, net 67, while Ian Miles was second with gross 84, net 68, and Steve
Haylor, gross 86, net 69, was third.
Brackenbury followed up her medal success by scoring 40 points to record a resounding win in the second round of the ladies’ Gillas Cup.
With a gross medal score of fourover par 78, she finished the last five holes in two under in a round that included four birdies and six pars.
Renee Wheeler was second with 33 and Sandy Miller third with 27.
Darren Morton won the men’s Saturday stableford competition with 34 points, while Jason Kendal with 33 points beat Steve Fisher on countback to take second spot.
In-form Georgie Seaman followed up a win in the Saturday stableford the previous week by winning the ladies’ monthly midweek stableford with a splendid 42 points.
Jane Wilmore was second on 33 and Renee Wheeler a further shot back in third spot.
Chris Prior won a hotly-contested men’s midweek stableford with 42 points.
Ricky Skrzydlo claimed the runners-up slot with 39 points, while a four-way tie on 38 was resolved in the order of Andrew Grayson, Geoff Pudner, Greg Collins and Kieran Watson on countback.
The West Berks team that plays in Division 1 of the Central Sevens Golf League completed their fixtures with a hard-fought 4-3 victory over Cotswold Club to finish third in the division.
Meanwhile, the mixed team played their last match of 2021, losing 4-1 away to Bradfield College.
