Sports Quiz and Mayor’s Coffee Morning fundraisers coming up

-

EVERY year the Newbury Weekly News spreads a little Christmas cheer to nearly 2,000 elderly residents in West Berkshire, writes parcels fund coordinator Jo Fulker.

Anyone over the age of 80, whose name we have been given, receives a Christmas food parcel to show them how much they are appreciated by the community.

If you would like to add a name of a resident over 80 years of age living in Newbury, Hungerford or Thatcham to our list or to remove the name of someone no longer requiring a parcel, please contact jo.fulker@newburynews.co.uk

We need amendments by Friday, November 12.

The parcels are being packed by Sainsbury’s staff and Cubs from many groups around the area, then stored in Sainsbury’s cool room for nearly a week to minimise any risk of Covid-19.

Camp Hopson and Swift are taking the parcels to the distribution points and volunteers will deliver the food parcels.

We are four weeks away from distribution and still need to raise more money to pay the Sainsbury’s food bill. If you would like to support our fundraising, by donating through The Good Exchange your money will be doubled by Greenham Trust, which supports the Over 80s’ Parcel Fund.

Every £1 donated or raised and paid in via the fundraising appeal on The Good Exchange platform (up to £5,000) will be matched. If you would like to make a donation please go to https://bit.ly/3BxU0Es

If you would like to contribute by post, please send a cheque – made payable to NWN Over 80s Parcel Fund – for the attention of Jo Fulker, Newbury Weekly News, Newspaper House, Faraday Road, Newbury, RG14 2DW.

Sadly, due to Covid regulations we have had to postpone our Priyou’ll mary School Quiz night at Stockcross Primary School on November 16, but we are hoping to hold it after Christmas. Watch this space.

November 18 sees the start of the Sports Quiz night at the Bowlers Arms, as it has been now for many years.

Teams come from all over West Berkshire to battle it out to be the quiz champions and also of course to have a fun evening at the same time as raising funds for the Parcel Fund.

On Saturday, November 27, from 10am to noon, join mayor Billy Drummond for a cup of tea or coffee and home-made cake at Newbury Town Hall.

There will be a raffle and stalls to raise money for this year’s Parcel Fund.
