New Headley housing plan
PLANS have been submitted to build eight houses off the A339 in Headley.
Applicant Randolph Black is hoping to build the homes just north of Knightsbridge Lodge between Knightsbridge Drive and 4 Kingdoms Adventure Park.
The site is already the subject of an application to convert it into a traveller caravan site with four utility/day rooms.
It attracted a number of objections from local residents who were concerned about further traffic on to the A339, flooding and the lack of nearby amenities.
That application was rejected by Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council and has now gone to appeal with the Planning Inspectorate. A decision date has not yet been set.
Under the new plans, six of the homes would be two-bed, with the remaining two homes three-bed.
Although the site is outside of any settlement policy boundary, the applicant argues “there is a known need for two- and three-bed homes within the borough” and that “at present the council have a lack of land supply thus proving a need for dwellings”.
In a planning statement put together by the applicant, it is argued the scheme would “encourage development and associated economic growth” and that “the future occupants would also undoubtedly contribute to the local economy and to the continued viability of local services in surrounding villages”.
The statement added: “This application for eight new dwellings will fit with the local context. Furthermore, using this parcel of land would make efficient use of this land, whilst also respecting the character and scale of the surrounding dwellings.
“The development site is not isolated and would not have an adverse impact on its setting and would be in keeping with the area and would not harm the amenities of occupiers of nearby properties or any occupants of the proposed properties.”
The plans will now go to Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council. To view the plans, go to the council’s planning portal and enter the reference 21/03521/FUL.
