Clere find it tough away to Slough

-

KINGSCLERE Ladies lost 4-0 to title favourites Slough Town in Division 2 of the Thames Valley Women’s League.

Kingsclere got off to the worst possible start and were behind within the first minute when they gave the Slough left winger too much space to clip a ball over the top to their striker who drove her effort into the bottom corner.

Kingsclere responded well and went down the other end looking for a goal with Abigail Elliott finding some space on the right edge of the box, but her effort went wide of the near post.

Despite their good play, they were two down soon after when a missed interception saw the Slough winger go in down the right before squaring to the striker who finished into the bottom corner.

Charlotte Mansfield then fired wide when well placed on the edge of the box before Georgia Elliott saw a left-foot effort held by the goalkeeper.

But Slough made it three soon after when their striker was played in on goal down the middle and firing past the despairing dive of the advancing Hamilton.

And Slough added a fourth towards the end of the half when some poor marking saw their player head into the bottom corner from a corner from the left.

Kingsclere kept looking for a way back into the match and almost had it when a free-kick fell to Elliott in the box, but her effort was well blocked with Little just unable to get onto the rebound.

Penelope Hall then saw a freekick from range go just wide of the goal as the game fizzled out despite Kingsclere’s best efforts to get on the scoresheet.

In Division 3 South, Goring United women recorded an 8-3 win over Taplow United.

Josie Marsden netted a hat-trick for her side, while Harriet Walker (2), Grace Dollery, Sian Douglass and an own-goal gave them a comfortable win.

Elsewhere, Newbury Ladies Dev drew 4-4 with Wallingford Town.

Maria Rodrigues scored a brace and further goals came from Amy McNab and Gabriely Tavares da Silva.
