Onemorefortheroad races to quick victory
JOCKEY Jack Quinlan was surprised at how Onemorefortheroad quickened up to land the Ladbrokes Committed To Safer Gambling Intermediate Hurdle on day two of the Winter Carnival at Newbury.
In the four-horse race, the Neil Kingtrained six-year-old cleared the final hurdle to go on and finish ahead of Captain Morgs, Gowel Road and Soaring Glory.
The win for Onemorefortheroad was his third of the season, having previously won at Stratford and Huntingdon.
After the race, Quinlan said: “I spoke to Mr King about the horse [before the race] because I have never ridden him in public, but I have sat on him at home.
“He was good, I had a look after the first and he was razor sharp and turning in. I didn’t know how many gears I had to go through because he got quicker and quicker.
“He surprised me how quicker he got with three out and then quickened again after the second last.
“I don’t know how much is left in the tank until he is really tested, but that will probably come in the next race.”
Elsewhere, Elle Est Belle won her third race from six starts when landing the Ladbrokes Mares’ Novices’ Hurdle for Dan Skelton and Harry Skelton.
Ahoy Senior produced a fine perfor
mance to win the Ladbrokes John Francome Novices’ Chase, while the duo of Harry Cobden and Paul Nicholls won the Sir Peter O’Sullevan Memorial Handicap Chase with Kapcorse.
“I am delighted,” said Cobden. “AP [McCoy] said he ran very well after he galloped him at Newbury the other day and he is a lovely big horse, but unfortunately
he has been plagued with problems in the past.”
There was also success for Nigel and Sam Twiston-Davies as Earlofthecotswolds won the Get Your Ladbrokes 1 Free Bet Today Handicap Hurdle, while Nicholls and Cobden tasted victory with Il Ridoto in the final race.
