NEWBURY Blues stormed to a bonus-point victory over Buckingham as they romped to a 53-19 win at Monks Lane in South West 1 East.

They got off to a flying start as, after winning a penalty scrum, Blues forwards won the ball before edging up to the try line where Adam Neal touched down close to the posts.

The kick was converted by Dan Thorne and Blues extended their lead to 12-0 when Neal scored again.

In a similar move, the Blues pack shoved Buckingham back before collecting the ball and seeing Neal break through the defence to score.

Things got even better for the home side when they gathered the ball from the restart and demonstrated some good flowing rugby, which resulted in Kris Ford getting on the scoresheet and Thorne converting the kick.

Buckingham, however, did pull a try back when some scruffy play from the home side saw them knock on a loose ball from a lineout.

From there, Buckingham held their scrum and attacked the Blues by taking play wide

and then back through several phases of attacking play before scoring.

Further scores from Tommy Martin and Harry WayBranch gave Newbury a very comfortable 31-7 lead at the break, with the bonus point already secured.

Blues got straight back to work after the interval and extended their advantage within two minutes when Rob Drys

dale broke through to cross the try line.

From the restart, Newbury added another try when Martin combined with Joe Pigott, before the latter split the defence and scored.

Jamie Futcher also managed to score the hosts, for their third try in eight second-half minutes.

With 12 minutes remaining, Buckingham scored another

try when they took advantage after winning a scrum.

Blues’ final try of the game came from Martin, who notched in his second of the day after a long pass across field from Tom Cole.

Buckingham did, however, have the final say of the game when they secured their third try of the afternoon.

Blues face Chippenham away on Saturday afternoon.
