Robinson thrilled with progression
HUNGERFORD Town manager Danny Robinson expressed delight as his squad progressed to the next round of two cup competitions within the last week.
On Saturday, the Crusaders beat Welling United 3-2 in the FA Trophy to set up a thirdround tie with Weymouth at Bulpit Lane on December 18.
It was quickly followed up with a 3-0 win over Wallingford Town in the first round of the Berks & Bucks Cup on Tuesday.
“It was the remit for the week, we wanted to get through to the next round of both competitions,” said Robinson.
“We weren’t brilliant on Saturday [against Welling], but we played well in spells and we did enough to win the game.
“Against Wallingford, in the first half they were probably better than us, but I think fitness and quality shone through in the end.”
When asked about the game against National League Weymouth, Robinson said: “They are a huge non-league club, they’re well supported and when the draw came out it was fantastic and it’s great for the club because we know what they bring.”
Robinson was able to ring the changes in both cup games and he was delighted to come out with two positive results.
He said: “We have to have a competitive squad at Hungerford because you can’t beat having players when they know other players want their shirt.
“We try to do that and it is what we have got and everyone in the squad played a part in both cup games.
“A year ago, I don’t think I could have made wholesale changes so it shows how far we have come down the road and it’s a big testament to the players we have.”
On Saturday, Hungerford host in-form Oxford City – a team currently lying second in the National League South.
Robinson said: “They are top draw and last year we couldn’t get near them.
“We lost 4-0 away and 4-1 at home and we know how good they are.
“It will be one of the toughest games we play this season and they have some fabulous players.
“I want to manage against the best managers and I want my players to play against the best players, so hopefully we can keep our form going.”
