Bon appétit! Funghi Club comes to town
Fab French food project opens in Hungerford High Street
A NEW business in Hungerford promises to be ‘foodie’ heaven.
The Funghi Club opened its High Street outlet doors last Wednesday. As well as offering ready-cooked meals, the shop sells fresh bread, oils, mustards, vinegars, fine chocolates, charcuterie and other French produce.
The weekly menu includes heat and eat dishes, fruits de mer, wine and mushrooms for delivery and collection.
The shop is the latest step in expansion for the couple behind The Funghi Club project, Laurent and Janie Lebeau.
In 2019, The Funghi Club started as a mushroom stall at artisan markets, selling their hot Funghi Bun as well as doing occasional food.
When the coronavirus pandemic struck, they diversified by creating a weekly menu of high-quality, restaurant standard, mostly French, food for customers to take home.
Mr Lebeau has an impressive CV in the restaurant and catering world. Having learned his trade at the distinguished Lycée Hotelier in Nice, he has been head chef at several top London French restaurants, an executive head chef at Groupe Chez Gérard with 85 restaurants under his remit and head chef at the prestigious Wimbledon Tennis Championships in the Royal
Room and The Rolex Restaurant for two consecutive years.
In 2009, he moved to The Red House, Marsh Benham, where he remained until 2020
He said: “Janie and I are very excited to launch The Funghi Club shop in Hungerford.
“Since launching The Funghi Club, it has grown at a rate of knots and we would like to thank our investors and customers for their ongoing, incredible and humbling support.
“We can’t wait to welcome customers old and new to the shop.”
