No change for festive bin collections

-

THERE will be no changes to bin collection days over the festive period, the borough council has confirmed.

With Christmas and Boxing Day falling over a weekend and the crews working on the bank holiday Monday and Tuesday, the council has said there is no need to change the collection days.

Collections will take place as usual in the week of Monday, December 27, and Monday, January 3, and residents should put their rubbish and recycling out on their usual collection day.

The crew will take extra rubbish sacks and extra recycling on the first collection after Christmas only.

Residents are asked to put their excess recycling next to the green bin in a cardboard box or clear plastic bag, and to remove any recyclable tape.

Most wrapping paper, ribbon, glitter and tape cannot be recycled and should be put into the waste bin.

Garden waste collections will take a two-week break as usual from Monday, December 27, and will restart on Monday, January 10.

Garden waste customers can leave their real Christmas trees out for collection in the New Year, although trees over six feet tall should be cut in half.

Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council portfolio holder for recycling and waste Hayley Eaches said: “I want to give my sincere thanks to the bin crews who have had a particularly challenging year and will be out on their rounds while many of us will still be enjoying the Christmas festivities.

“Residents can do their bit to help our crews this Christmas by flattening cardboard, squashing plastic bottles, not overfilling bins and making sure that all recycling is clean and dry.”
