A new chapter for Newbury Bookshelf

-

“HELLO and welcome to Newbury Bookshelf, where you can find almost anything you would keep on a bookshelf.

I’m Emily (pictured) and with my husband Chris we decided that after the Covid-19 pandemic that life was too short. We wanted to create something that we could call our own achievement to be proud of.

So, we dropped out of the rat-race and through our mutual love of books, jigsaws and board games we created Newbury Bookshelf.

We want Newbury Bookshelf not just to be another shop on the high street.

Chris, having grown up in Newbury, felt that Newbury Bookshelf should be a place that gives back to a community.

When I was an undergraduate in Winchester, I worked in a local bookshop that had been around for 200 years and would put on book fairs for local schools.

It was one of the best jobs I ever had.

Although new and slowly getting our name out into the community we hopefully would like to be a household name someday in Newbury and West Berkshire.

We spent the summer and autumn of 2021 planning and creating Newbury Bookshelf. Starting a business has been a challenge, but also at other times doesn’t feel like work at all.

We finally opened our virtual doors online in December 2021 with our website www. newburybookshelf.co.uk

Now we have our first physical location at Newbury Market.

So, every Thursday and Saturday we will be there to offer you the latest books, as well as the classics.

We hope to be at Thatcham Market too soon.

We hope to grow and get our own permanent location, but also still go around the community as well.

So if want to find your next wonderful book or need some help choosing one, come find us at the market or visit us online and send us a message and we will be happy to help you out.”
