Miller time for Town
Anton’s late strike completes the perfect Easter weekend for Thatcham
ANTON Miller struck four minutes from time to earn Thatcham Town a 1-0 win at Marlow FC on Easter Monday.
It completed a tremendous bank holiday double for the Kingfishers following Friday’s win over Uxbridge – and lifted them up to 12th in the Isthmian League South Central division.
And manager Yashwa Romeo was thrilled with his side’s double triumph against two sides chasing a place in the end-of-season play-offs.
He said: “I have had worse weekends! It has been absolutely brilliant.
“Although we were safe from relegation, the season isn’t over – people pay to come and watch us and we want to finish the season strongly.
“We ended up with two wins and two clean sheets and I am so proud of the boys.”
Former manager Jamie Leacock had to rebuild the team from scratch at the start of the season and Town were struggling until Romeo took charge in March.
So to finish safe in mid-table is a huge achievement for the club.
Romeo said: “To finish where we are is excellent, and it will help to recruit new players in the summer.
“Next season I want to make the play-offs so we have to start building again.”
He added: “The two games this week were real battles and we won both battles. We gave Uxbridge a torrid time and on Monday I don’t think Marlow created one chance.
“We only had a couple of chances, but we were dogged throughout.”
Thatcham wrap up their season at home to third-placed Chertsey Town on Saturday.
It will prove another tough test for Town, but Romeo said: “There is a real buzz about the team at the moment.”
