Nine-man Thatcham edge out Uxbridge

-

DAN Fosu headed the winner as Thatcham Town edged out Uxbridge 1-0 in a fiery contest at the Stacatruc Stadium on Good Friday.

Fosu struck in the 26th minute, but the Kingfishers ended with nine men after Bradley Passfield and Lamar Komora were sent off, while Uxbridge keeper Tobin also saw red.

Thatcham went into the game knowing that their Isthmian status was already secured.

And they started well, with Simeon Weekes having an effort ruled out for offside after 15 minutes.

But Thatcham did take the lead soon after when Fosu rose to head home Anton Miller’s cross.

Trouble flared in the 38th minute when Thatcham’s Zeid Hannachi was brought down.

Players from both sides got involved and both Tobin and Komora were sent off.

Josh Andrew took over in goal for Uxbridge, but soon after Babz Jarra, who captained Thatcham to victory in the FA Vase at Wembley, then replaced him between the sticks.

Caqmeron Rohart-Brown and Nathan Jones went close to extending Thatcham’s lead either side of half-time.

And at the other end Osobu was then denied by a Hopwood save and a Josh Edwards block.

Thatcham went down to nine men in the 63rd minute when Passfield handled on the line, but Hopwood superbly saved Mendy’s penalty.

Uxbridge piled on the pressure in the closing stages and Hopwood saved well from Mendy and Haugh, while Fosu produced a vital clearance.

Martin was unlucky not to level for Uxbridge when his fierce shot came back off a post and although Mendy headed just wide in injury time, Kingfishers held on for the points.

Thatcham wrap up their first season in the Isthmian League when they entertain Chertsey Town on Saturday.
