Rain can’t dampen a stellar set of results
Celebrations can start in earnest after pupils make the grade in GCSEs
THE rain was pouring outside and the tears inside were flowing as Park House students celebrated a stellar set of GCSE results last Thursday.
Overall, approximately 74 per cent of all students achieved five or more ‘good’ passes, including English and mathematics, while there were some amazing individual performances too.
In total 15 students achieved Grades 8 or 9 in all of their results.
Louise Kervella, from Newbury, was overjoyed after achieving a staggering 12 9s, meaning she got the highest grade possible in every single exam she sat.
She said: “It’s just amazing. I can’t really believe it.”
She will stay on at Park House to study A-levels.
Another top performer was Samuel Knight, who achieved an impressive 11 9s and one 7.
“I’m so happy and I just really didn’t expect it,” he said.
“I’ll be celebrating tonight. I’ll probably go out for a nice meal with the family.
“The hard work is done and now I can relax a bit.”
Samuel said he will stay on at Park House to study A-levels in mathematics, further mathematics, physics and computing.
Jessica Upton said she is considering following in the footsteps of her mother, former Thames Valley Police Superintendent Lindsay Finch, by embarking on a career in public service.
“I came here very nervous, but thought whatever happens, happens.
“I’m so happy that I got exactly what I needed to get into sixth form.”
Jessica, who got a 4 in mathematics, a 5 in English and a 6 in art, added: “I think I want a career in helping people.
“I look at what mum did and she’s an inspiration to me. She’s amazing.
“I’m not sure what I’ll do yet, possibly join the police force or ambulance service.
“Seeing what everyone was doing during lockdown, the NHS, it just made me want to do something like that.”
Keen dancer Rebecca Gray is following her passion at sixth form after getting a 9 in the subject.
She said her grades overall were “better than I was expecting”.
Meanwhile, Georgia Beckley will study mathematics,
further mathematics, physics and economics after achieving a 9, seven 8s and three 7s.
She said: “After all the disruption with Covid I’m pleased with the results and felt I worked as hard as I could.”
Interim principal Damian Crabbe said: “Once again the young people in our school have demonstrated how their hard work and tenacity can pay off.
“I am delighted for the young people of our community.
“They have once again given themselves, their parents and carers and the school ample reason to be proud of their successes.”
