EAST Woodhay were crowned Hampshire League Division 2 champions after a remarkable 300-run win over Sparsholt 2nd.

And the win was set up by a brilliant innings from opener Ben Hummel, who hit 233no in just 138 balls, smashing 35 fours and five sixes at a strike rate of 168.84.

Woodhay won the toss, chose to bat and posted a mammoth 420-4 from their 45 overs.

Hummel combined with Barnaby Talbot-Williams for a 369-run third-wicket partnership to take Woodhay’s score from 37-2 to 406-3, when Talbot-Williams was eventually caught on 135.

Talbot-Williams (3-23) then starred with the ball as Sparsholt were all out for 120 in the 39th over.

There were also wickets for Alan Williams (2-21), Jamie Dalrymple (2-25) and Samuel Clements (2-28) as Woodhay secured promotion to Division 1 for the first time in the club’s history.

Hungerford signed off with a disappointing 116-run defeat against Farley.

The result means Hungerford finish second bottom in the Division 3 North table.

Farley won the toss and amassed an impressive 3149 from their 45 overs, while there were two wickets apiece for Hungerford’s Robert Grimmond (2-23), Andrew Burbidge (2-39) and Seb Lake (2-57).

Odiham made the most of winning the toss by reaching 336-8.

Ed Lyle (2-60) and Daniel Jones (2-69) picked up two wickets each on a difficult final afternoon of the season for Kingsclere’s bowlers

Things didn’t prove any easier with the bat as Kingsclere slumped to 124 all out with only opener Peter Frith (25) providing any resistance.

There was better news for Kingsclere’s Division 4 North rivals Ashford Hill, who beat Whitchurchby 51 runs to secure fourth place.

Ashford Hill had half centuries from opener Ollie Williams (59) and number eight Mark Williamson (50no) to thank as they posted 236-8.

It was then the turn of bowlers Garry Masters (3-18) and Adnan Khan (3-29) to star as Whitchurch were bowled all out for just 185.
