New Salvation Army shop opens

THE Salvation Army has opened a new donation centre and shop in Newbury and is looking for volunteers to help run it.

The centre is the 28th of its kind in the UK and it opens this morning (Thursday) at 125 London Road, next to Greggs.

Aiming to promote sustainabi­lity and upcycling, it will sell second-hand books, media, bric-a-brac, clothes, furniture and much more, all at affordable prices.

The new donation centre’s manager, Kirsty Ingleson, said: “We have been blown away by the interest prior to opening.

“We look forward to welcoming the people of Newbury and carrying on the good work that the Salvation Army do.”

The centre will also offer a free furniture collection service that can be booked by calling the team on (01635) 635828.

Business developmen­t co-ordinator at The Salvation Army, Karina Hare, said: “Our aim is to help the local community.

“Everybody needs help nowadays money-wise, so people can buy more affordable things, as well donating items and putting back into the community. It all goes towards an excellent cause.”

The Salvation Army is looking for volunteers to help with the retail and business side of the donation centre, as well as looking after its social media presence promoting it within the local community.
