Rotarians’ grand gesture boosts fund

-

HUNGERFORD Rotary Club has made a donation of £1,000 to the Constable of the Town & Manor’s Hungerford Fund.

As many in the town struggle to manage as food, fuel and energy prices rise, the Town & Manor charity set up the Constable’s Hungerford Fund – and made a matched funding pledge, too.

Those who are eligible and apply to receive support will receive a one-off payment of £100 to help towards rising bills.

The Town & Manor has also pledged to match every £1,000 raised by public donations, up to a limit of £10,000.

Households in the town wanting to apply for a grant, are eligible if they meet the following two criteria:

They live in the town of Hungerford.

They are receiving means-tested welfare benefits (for example, Universal Credit, disability benefit, housing benefit, and so on).

A spokesman for the town Rotary Club, Llewellyn Robins, said: “The Constable, Peter Joseph, told us that the scheme is proving to be very successful and has so far attracted many donations from

both individuals and local business and organisations.

“Hungerford Rotary Club has been going now for over three decades and during that time it has raised thousands of pounds for good causes.

“The members, both men and women, meet on two Monday evenings a month for a couple of hours at the Bear Hotel, where they either listen to interesting speakers or plan events to help good causes.

“If you’d like more information about the Rotary Club or you’re interested in membership, visit www.hungerfordrotary.org.uk where you will find the contact details.

“Come along and see what Rotary is all about.”

Meanwhile the Constable’s Hungerford Fund was just £3,725 shy of its £25,000 target as this newspaper went to press.
