Kennet wrap up season in style

TEAM Kennet rounded off their Wessex League season with an impressive thirdplace­d finish in Abingdon.

The result means Kennet finished fifth overall out of 24 teams.

The under-15 girls finished second on the day and third overall, Clare McGonnell rounding off an excellent season with a hat-trick of wins in the 75m hurdles, 300m and the javelin, in which she is ranked in the top 20 for her age group.

In the high jump, there was a brilliant double win for twin sisters Neve and Mia Wright,

who cleared 1.50m and 1.48m to win both the A and B string events.

The under-17 girls also achieved a second-placed finish in their match to secure a top-six finish overall, thanks to wins from Charlotte Absolom, Annabel Maclean and Alanna Smith.

The under-13 girls were third in a hotly-contested event that saw eight points separate the top four teams.

Emerald Hill-Sawyer continued her fine 800m form, winning in 2:36.7, while Zoe Dickson won the discus with a throw of 19.38.

There was double delight in the javelin as Eliska Simpson threw 22.06m to win the A string and Anna Hall 21.02m to win the B string, both athletes moving into the top 40 UK rankings.

The under-15 boys finished third thanks to wins from Ivan Checkmozov in the 800m and James Fenner in the javelin.

The under-13 boys were also third, completing an excellent season.

Will McDonald won the A string javelin with a throw of 32.79m, while Noah Lauder-Clarke triumphed in the B string thanks to a throw of 25.43m.

Turkay Altuntas won the discus with a throw of 27.31m , which moves him up to ninth in the UK at his age group.

The under-17 men came fourth in their match, Seb Simpson completing a hattrick of wins in the shot put, discus and B string javelin, while Brandon Carter won both the B string shot put and the A string javelin.
